If you look at the picture on the box for Stouffer’s French Bread Pizzas, it’s hard to look away. Your mouth will likely start to water, and you’ll feel that little rumbling in your tummy that says it’s time to eat. So obviously, when we found Stouffer’s Cheese French Bread Pizzas at our local grocery store, we had to try them out.
These pizzas come in a package of two. Each is packaged in its own sealed sleeve, so eating one at a time isn’t inconvenient at all. We do prefer this to having to stuff an unwrapped food item back into the freezer.
These come without microwave instructions, so you’ll have to cook them in the oven. Preheat to 375 degrees fahrenheit, then bake them on a cookie sheet for about 24 minutes. That’s not a short cook time for a frozen meal, or even a frozen pizza, but we think it’s worth the wait.
As you can see in our image below, this doesn’t contain the gooey abundance of cheese shown on the package. It also ends up being crispy rather than stretchy. While we would have loved it if this were oozing with cheese, it’s actually a pretty fair amount.
The sauce is quite good. It’s thick rather than runny, and it has the sweet undertones that we really like.
Of course, a majority of this pizza is bread. If you follow the directions to the letter — like we did — the bread gets really crispy on the edges while retaining just a little bit of softness in the middle. It supports the taste of the sauce and cheese quite well, though it doesn’t have a strong taste on its own. In fact, if we were served just a piece of this bread, we’d probably want a dipping sauce for it.
One of these pizzas contains fewer calories than we’d have expected, at 350 (140 from fat). Of course, you’ll have to double that if you plan on eating the full package in one sitting, but we really don’t think that’s necessary. One of these on its own is a pretty good size for a lighter meal, especially if you wash it down with a cold glass of milk.
Stouffer’s Cheese French Bread Pizza is a pretty great tasting snack or even a light lunch. While it’s not much like the cheese bread pictured on the box, it’s no slouch in the world of French bread pizzas.
