This quiche comes with both microwave and oven instructions. While we prepared the dish in the microwave, we’d recommend trying the oven instructions instead. The microwave instructions require you to change the power settings as the dish cooks, which makes it a little confusing to prepare.
Thankfully, whether you prepare this dish in the oven or the microwave, it’s definitely worth the effort. The buttery crust is light, flaky, and tasty enough to eat on its own. The broccoli, egg, and cheese filling is even better. It’s got a rich, creamy taste to it that feels a little bit indulgent. Subtle hints of garlic enhance the overall flavor of the meal.
Although microwaved eggs can be a bit rubbery, we’re perfectly satisfied with the texture of the eggs in this dish.
Overall, this doesn’t quite taste like a freshly prepared quiche, but it’s pretty close. The filling is soft and savory, and the crust has a very appealing crunch to it. There’s a great mix of cheese and broccoli here; this meal doesn’t feel like it’s lacking in anything.
At 460 calories and 30 grams of fat, this breakfast definitely isn’t diet friendly. That said, we found it to be very filling. If you do start your day off with your protein-rich meal, you’ll be able to get by with a lighter lunch.
The bottom line: If you love quiche, and you don’t have enough time to prepare it yourself, you’ll definitely want to give the Trader Joe’s version a try.
