Stouffer’s makes a pretty decent macaroni dish. Unfortunately, their Classic Macaroni and Cheese is a calorie monster, with 660 calories in a package. What’s a frozen food lover to do?
Well, one option is to get this delicious meal in a snack-sized package, and the Stouffer’s Mac & Cheese Cups are exactly this. There’s a mini serving of mac and cheese in a little cup that won’t send you to calorie detention. Since there are two cups per package, you can eat one right away and save the other for later, or you can give the second cup to a friend.
We compared the ingredients on the package against those on the Classic Macaroni & Cheese, and the only difference we noticed was that the butter and soybean oil have swapped positions. It’s safe to say, then, that this little meal is really just a smaller-portion version of the Classic Macaroni & Cheese.
Of course, with its smaller size comes a shorter cook time. Simply stick one of the cups into the microwave for two minutes, stir it, then put it in for one more. Out pops a bright red cup filled (well, partially filled) with delicious mac and cheese.
Now, we really have to emphasize here how small this cup is. As you can see in the image above, this is barely even a snack. A pack of fruit snacks might be more filling than one of these cups of mac and cheese.
As we mentioned earlier, there is virtually no difference between this and the Classic Macaroni & Cheese. It has that same soft, gooey sauce with the same sour-cream-ish flavor, and the same pudgy little elbow noodles. One cup has 250 calories (120 from fat) and 490 mg of sodium. While none of those numbers would be too bad on a full meal, this is really just a teeny, tiny little thing. Considering you could probably eat both cups and still be hungry afterward, the calorie count is deceptively high.
The Stouffer’s Mac & Cheese Cups are really just a smaller version of the Classic Macaroni & Cheese. While that’s potentially great for those cutting calories, one of these cups is hardly going to fill you up, even if you’re a small child.
