We’ve been really impressed by some of Trader Joe’s more unusual pasta dishes. We love the fall-friendly flavors of the Harvest Spaghetti Squash Spirals, and their Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Butter & Sage is one of our all-time favorites. That said, we enjoy simpler pasta dishes from time to time. Trader Joe’s Ricotta & Spinach Filled Ravioli with Tomato Basil Sauce is pretty basic, but it’s still very enjoyable.
One of the best things about this meal is how easy it is to prepare. All you have to do is heat up some water and olive oil and toss in the contents of this bag. After about five minutes and a few good stirs, your meal will be ready to eat.
As you can see in our picture below, the tomato basil sauce is a little on the watery side. The sauce did thicken up after sitting a few minutes, but it still had a soupy quality that we didn’t like. If we were cooking this meal again, we’d probably use less water than the package calls for. Thicker sauce would have done a lot to improve this meal.
Even though we weren’t thrilled with the sauce, this is still a perfectly satisfactory ravioli dish. The tomato basil sauce contains plenty of garlic, which does a lot to enhance the flavor of the meal. The ravioli is stuffed to the brim with fresh spinach and creamy ricotta cheese, which means they’re tasty enough to eat plain.
Trader Joe’s Ricotta & Spinach Filled Ravioli with Tomato Basil Sauce won’t blow your mind, but it’s still a tasty dish. More importantly, it gives you a cheap and easy way to prepare a nice, Italian meal. If you add a bit of parmesan cheese and pair this pasta with a salad and some garlic bread, you’ll have a dish that you can serve to guests.
