Amy’s Meals for Two – Cheese Ravioli Review

Amy's Meals for Two - Cheese Ravioli

Usually, Freezer Meal Frenzy appreciates meals with more than one serving. We have multiple staffers, and have extra food means that everyone can chow down to their heart’s content. Unfortunately, as Amy’s Cheese Ravioli with Peas proves, larger frozen meals aren’t always what they’re cracked up to be.

We were suspicious of this meal as soon as we opened the bag and emptied it out into a pan. It didn’t seem like there were enough ravioli noodles to cook two people. Still, we continued heating the dish up, hoping we’d be satisfied with it once it was fully cooked.

On the bag, it states that this dish includes a “light sprinkling of organic peas.” As you can see, the serving of peas is anything but light. In fact, we’d say that about a quarter of the dish is nothing but peas. Here’s what the meal looks like when the ravioli noodles are removed:

Even if you’re the sort of person that enjoys peas, the enormous helping here really interferes with the rest of the dish. Since the peas and sauce are cooked together, all of the sauce wound up clinging to the peas. This left the ravioli noodles feeling dry. The peas also changed the flavor of the sauce. We normally love Amy’s tomato sauce, but this version of the sauce was a lot less appealing.

We’ve had great spinach ravioli from Amy’s, but sadly, this ravioli is filled with cheese and cheese alone. We like cheese — love it, even — but since all of the sauce in this dish is slathered on peas, the ravioli winds up tasting pretty bland. A different filling would have gone a long way here.

Because there are so many peas, Amy’s Cheese Ravioli with Peas also isn’t very substantial. This dish is enough to feed one person, but it certainly isn’t a “Meal for Two” as the package suggests. We wish that Amy’s would have used a vegetable that was more nutritionally dense, such as broccoli or spinach. As is, this frozen meal is lacking in taste and nutrients, and we’d recommend staying away from it.
