Red’s Chicken Chorizo, Egg & Three Cheese Burrito Review

Red's Chicken Chorizo, Egg & Three Cheese Burrito13

Ah, frozen burritos. Is there any pleasure in this world greater than the enjoyment one gets from scarfing down a frozen burrito? Okay, so we’re exaggerating a bit. But still, we really do love frozen burritos here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, and we’d love to try as many of them as possible. Today’s burrito is Red’s Chicken Chorizo, Egg & Three Cheese Burrito.

Now, we’ve tried Red’s breakfast burritos in the past, and we found them to be a bit of a mixed bag. While we found the Turkey Sausage, Egg & Three Cheese Burrito to be quite delicious, the Egg & Cheddar Burrito was a bit of a letdown. So right away, we knew the Chicken Chorizo, Egg & Three Cheese Burrito had the potential to go either way.

While we have our own cooking method for frozen burritos, Red’s burritos tend to demand a little extra effort. So here we followed the directions on the package. The first step is to preheat your oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. You’ll then want to thaw the burrito by warming it in the microwave for about a minute — the package suggests that you cover it with a microwave-safe plate during this step. Then, you’ll place the burrito on a greased-up pan and put it in the oven for about 15 minutes or so.

The first thing you’ll taste when you bite into this burrito is the three-cheese blend. This combination of pepper jack, mozzarella, and white cheddar is absolutely heavenly (this combo is three quarters of the blend that makes the Organic Cheese Quesadilla Burrito such a winner for us). This cheese is both stretchy and gooey, and the taste is phenomenal — we really love this cheese blend.

Of course, the chicken chorizo does its work too. While the meat portion doesn’t contribute as much to the flavor as the cheese does, it definitely raises the spice level a notch.

We thought we saw some corn kernels in this burrito, but when we actually chomped into it we realized we were mistaken. What looks like corn is just round chunks of scrambled egg. Now, it’s great that there’s some egg content in here — this is a breakfast burrito, after all — but there’s really not a ton of it. We don’t mind, because the cheese is so amazing, but if you’re looking for something super eggy, you won’t find it here.

This little burrito contains 350 calories, which is a bit much for a meal of this size. It’s likely you’ll be eating two of these in a single sitting if you plan on making it an actual meal instead of a little snack. The sodium, at 650 mg, is also quite a bit higher than we’d like it to be. Needless to say, this isn’t really a diet-friendly burrito. Though honestly, how often do you expect to find the words diet-friendly and burrito in the same sentence?

Red’s Chicken Chorizo, Egg & Three Cheese Burrito is very delicious. While egg lovers might be a little disappointed, those who want start their morning with something exquisitely cheesy are in for a real treat.
