Brie, a soft cheese made from cow’s milk, gets its name from the historic Brie region of Northern France. It takes a little time to bake this pastry dish; about 35 minutes in total. That said, the process of preparing this treat isn’t difficult at all. You don’t need to do much more than take it out of its packaging, load it into the oven, and wait. You can easily cook this one up while you’re preparing more complicated dishes.
In the past, certain members of our staff have compared Trader Joe’s brie to soap. Those staffers seem to think that this cheese has the same soap-like quality. However, this opinion certainly isn’t a unanimous one; other staffers really enjoy the buttery, slightly sour flavor of the brie.
So one thing’s for sure: you’re not going to enjoy this dish if you don’t like brie. Once you slice the pastry open, you’ll see brie oozing out. It’s a little bit messy, but the cheese is also very tasty, especially when it’s paired with the light and flaky crust.

If you don’t serve something else with your brie, you’re going to wind up eating spoonfuls of nothing but cheese. We’d suggest combining this with fruit, crackers, or your favorite bread. Trader Joe’s Brie en Croûte definitely isn’t designed to be eaten on its own, but it pairs very nicely with the right ingredients. Whether you choose to combine it with crackers, grapes, or even with chocolate, it’s a decadent appetizer that is tailor-made for holiday parties. Unless brie cheese makes you think about soap, you’ll find a lot to like about this dish.
