Trader Joe’s Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken Review

Trader Joe's Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken

We’ve been looking forward to trying the Trader Joe’s Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken for a while now. We’re big fans of fettuccine when it’s done right, and we have plenty of faith in Trader Joe’s to get the job done. So today we’re checking out this delicious-looking frozen food.

This is easy enough to cook. Simply dump the contents of the bag into a saucepan, and stir on medium heat until everything seems done. The package claims this should take 7-10 minutes, but we found ourselves giving it some extra time. We wanted to make sure all those chicken chunks cooked up nicely before we started stuffing it into our faces.

Since it’s the trickiest part of the meal, let’s talk about the chicken first. Ours was a little bit on the dry side. Now, we’re perfectly willing to admit that we could be the ones to blame here, because, as we mentioned in the previous paragraph, we gave this a little extra time on the stove. As far as flavor, though, this is some high-quality poultry. This is the kind of chicken you’ll be picking out of the dish so you can plop it straight into your mouth without letting all that pasta get in the way.

Of course, the pasta is no slouch either. The noodles are your basic ribbon-shaped fettuccine noodles, and honestly, we’d have it no other way. The sauce, however, is fantastic. This is a tasty alfredo sauce with a hint of garlic and just a touch of black pepper. It’s not quite as creamy as we would have liked, but again, we’re willing to admit that this could be a result of us giving this a little extra time in the cooker.

According to the package, this should be two servings. But who decided that, a mouse? A bag makes about enough to fill one medium-sized dish. In our image above, that is a full package, which looks to us to be about a serving.

Now, one serving (a half bag) contains 430 calories (180 from fat), so if you’re like us and you decide to scarf down an entire bag in one sitting, you’ll be consuming 860 calories (360 from fat). That’s no small thing. Plus, the sodium goes from an acceptable 610 mg to a whopping 1,220 mg. Yikes! This is on par with the Steak & Stout Pies, which are considered one of the least healthy items in the Trader Joe’s frozen food lineup.

Trader Joe’s Fettuccine Alfredo with Grilled Chicken is delicious, but it’s loaded with calories. Even if you can obey the package and only eat half a bag at a time, this is no diet food. Still, we think it’s very tasty, and we’ll definitely be saving another cheat day for this meal in the future!
