Red’s Beef, Bean & Cheddar Burrito Review

Red's Beef, Bean & Cheddar Burrito

The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff tends to get pretty excited at the prospect of trying out a new frozen burrito. This site was founded on frozen burrito reviews, after all, and we love sampling as many of them as we can. Today, we’re taking a look at the Red’s Beef, Bean & Cheddar Burrito.

Now, Red’s burritos don’t come without a bit of work. The cooking method is honestly a bit strange. You’ll need to preheat your oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit, then thaw the burrito by sticking it into the microwave for about a minute. Once both those things are taken care of, place the burrito on a nonstick baking sheet and pop it into the oven for 12 to 14 minutes. It doesn’t take a ton of time in comparison to some other frozen burritos out there, but it does require both the oven and the microwave.

Many of Red’s other burritos lean really heavily into the cheese portion (this is especially true of the Organic Cheese Quesadilla Burrito). The Beef, Bean & Cheddar Burrito, however, is pretty light on cheese. In fact, it’s all about the beans. We’d say this is closer to your traditional frozen burrito than most of Red’s lineup, but that’s not really true. While this is loaded with beans, these are higher quality beans than anything you’d find in a gas station at 3 in the morning. These have some great flavor.

The meat portion is ground beef, which disperses out through the whole burrito. You won’t find big, juicy chunks of the stuff in here. Instead, the beef hides among all those beans. We were hoping to find large chunks of stringy beef in here, but we suppose the ground version is fine.

If you’re looking for something especially spicy, you’ve probably come to the wrong place. This burrito has a little bit of bite to it, but we certainly wouldn’t call it spicy. Those with severe sensitivity to spiciness might want to avoid this, but those looking for something that will give their sinuses a good whack will be a little disappointed.

This burrito probably won’t fill you up, since it’s fairly small. That’s not good, because it contains 300 calories (90 from fat) and 510 mg of sodium. Since you could easily chomp two of these suckers in a sitting, that’s a pretty hefty amount of calories and sodium.

The Red’s Beef, Bean & Cheddar Burrito is pretty good. It’s not our favorite burrito in the Red’s lineup, but it’s a tasty, high-quality frozen burrito with a good amount of beans inside.
