The Lean Cuisine Favorites Broccoli Cheddar Rotini is a dish that the most devoted Freezer Meal Frenzy followers might recognize. We reviewed this meal some time ago, back when it was new to the Lean Cuisine lineup. Now that Lean Cuisine has updated the packaging, we thought we’d give it another look.
Like virtually all Lean Cuisine dishes, heating up this meal takes almost no effort at all. Since it heats in under 5 minutes, it’s a great option for work lunches. The meal does need to be stirred after cooking for a few minutes, but that’s not much of a hassle.
After pouring over the ingredients list and nutritional info, we’ve confirmed that this meal is unchanged from the original version. It’s still made with real cheddar cheese, and it still clocks in at exactly 300 calories. Like most of Lean Cuisine’s dishes, it won’t blow you away, but it’s diet-friendly and certainly makes for a decent meal.
The cheese sauce is a little thin when this meal comes out of the microwave, but after a few minutes of cooling, it thickens up nicely. There isn’t a ton of broccoli here, but each piece is fairly large, and it has an appealingly crunchy texture. The rotini noodles are perfectly designed to soak up the creamy cheese sauce, which means you should have no problems cleaning your plate.
The last time we reviewed Lean Cuisine Favorites Broccoli Cheddar Rotini, we said that it was “a nice, basic, low-calorie lunch,” and we’d say that descriptor still holds true. This can’t compare with Amy’s Broccoli & Cheddar Bake, but it’s fine for what it is. If you like cheese, broccoli, and effortless lunches, then you should absolutely give this a try.
