Amy’s Sweet & Sour Bowl in a Szechuan-Style Sweet & Spicy Sauce Review

Amy's Sweet & Sour Bowl in a Szechuan-Style Sweet & Spicy Sauce

Amy’s Kitchen has long been one of our favorite frozen food brands, and we’re always thrilled when we see that they have new products in stock. The all-new Amy’s Kitchen Sweet & Sour Bowl in a Szechuan-Style Sweet & Spicy Sauce is similar to some of our favorite Amy’s dishes, but it also feels like it’s new and distinct.

Like most of Amy’s other dishes, this is a breeze to heat up. We opted to cook it in the microwave, which took less than five minutes in total. You do have to stop and give it a stir partway through the process, but that’s not too much of a hassle.

There are no significant flaws to be found in this bowl. The veggies are fresh and perfectly crunchy. The quinoa is fluffy and chewy, and it blends nicely with the organic brown rice. The sweet and spicy sauce isn’t actually very spicy, but it’s still got a nice blend of tart and savory flavors.

However, we’re not totally sold on how everything comes together here. We kept feeling like this would have been a better dish if it was made with noodles rather than rice and quinoa, or that it could have used a wider range of veggies. Some mushrooms would have been great here, and we would have welcomed some chunks of squash.

Ultimately, this isn’t one of Amy’s best, but it’s still a perfectly fine frozen meal that we enjoyed eating. If you’re at all curious about Amy’s Sweet & Sour Bowl in a Szechuan-Style Sweet & Spicy Sauce, we’d definitely suggest giving it a try.
