Trader Joe’s Chickenless Crispy Tenders Review

Trader Joe's Chickenless Crispy Tenders

For reasons we can’t explain, the Freezer Meal Frenzy staff has a weakness for imitation chicken. We love a good chicken-less nugget, and we think Gardein’s chik’n products are really freaking tasty. When we saw Trader Joe’s Chickenless Crispy Tenders at our local TJ’s, we knew we had to try them out.

While the bag itself is pretty small, it’s absolutely packed full of tenders. Trader Joe’s says that there are three servings per bag, and we’d say that’s probably pretty apt. We opted to heat our tenders in the oven, which took about 15 minutes overall. If you’d like to save time, you can cook them on the stovetop in about 6 minutes.

When your tenders come out of the oven, they’ll be crispy, but they’ll also be on the dry side. You’ll definitely want some sort of sauce to dip them in. You could go with something basic, like ranch dressing or ketchup, but we decided to pair our tenders up with some Trader Joe’s Organic Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce. The combination was delicious, and we definitely recommend it.

Like most faux meat products, this isn’t going to trick your average meat-eater. It’s not a perfect match for the texture of actual meat. Taste-wise though, these are pretty convincing, especially when they’re slathered in some sort of sauce. The breading goes a long way towards making these taste like authentic chicken tenders.

Chicken tenders aren’t a health food by any stretch of the imagination, but these crispy treats are pretty diet-friendly. A serving of tenders is very filling, even though it’s just 180 calories worth of food. They’re breaded with whole grains and also rich in calcium and iron. That’s not bad for a plate of tenders.

If you’re looking for a meat-free way to satisfy your chicken tender cravings, Trader Joe’s Chickenless Crispy Tenders are the perfect product for you. Whether you’re a vegetarian, a vegan, or someone that’s looking to cut their meat intake, these tenders make for a simple and tasty dinner. Pair them with your favorite frozen fries or mashed potatoes, and you’ve got yourself a great meal!
