Jimmy Dean Delights – Turkey Sausage, Egg White & Cheese Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches Review

Jimmy Dean Delights – Turkey Sausage, Egg White & Cheese Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches

If you’re anything like us, you enjoy breakfast sandwiches a whole lot. We just love the little guys, and we think they’re the perfect thing to pair with a cup of coffee on a cold, rainy morning. So we’ve been really happy to get to test out the Jimmy Dean line of breakfast foods. While not everything in this frozen food line is great, we have found some things that we’ve enjoyed.

Today, we’re checking out the Turkey Sausage, Egg White & Cheese Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches, which are part of the Jimmy Dean Delights line. These are actually somewhat close to the Sausage, Egg & Cheese Croissant Sandwiches, with a couple minor differences. First, this uses egg white instead of a yellow egg patty. Second, the sausage here is made from turkey. How do these changes affect the flavor? Let’s dig in and find out.

These breakfast sandwiches come four in a box. Each is individually wrapped so you can chomp a single sandwich and keep the rest safely tucked away in the freezer or fridge.

You can cook these straight out of the freezer, but we prefer to let ours thaw overnight, which reduces the cook time. You can see the cooking instructions from both the freezer and the fridge on the box. (We’ve scanned the box so you can read those instructions for yourself — see the package scans at the bottom of this article.)

These actually come out of the microwave looking pretty nice. A lot of frozen sandwiches end up with that smooshed-down, fast-food look, but these hold up pretty well even though you’ll wrap each sandwich in a paper towel before cooking it.

The croissant here ends up looking more like a hamburger bun than a proper croissant. You can see these have none of the dry, flakey outsides that you’d expect from a croissant. It also doesn’t taste much like a croissant. It has just a tad bit of sweetness to it, but we’d say this tastes more like a Hawaiian sweet roll than a croissant. Now, don’t get us wrong here, we love Hawaiian sweet rolls; we just don’t think croissants and Hawaiian sweet rolls should taste the same.

Even so, aside from the croissant not meeting any of the expectations of a croissant, this bun is actually pretty tasty.

The egg white patty doesn’t have a ton of flavor, but egg whites typically don’t. It’s really soft and damp, and we think it’s a perfectly fine egg patty for this particular sandwich. It’s here less for the flavor and more for the protein and the texture, so it’s doing its job.

The turkey sausage is where this sandwich really shines. This is some great-tasting sausage, with some syrupy sweetness and a feisty bit of spices. In fact, if we wouldn’t have already known, we never would have guessed this is a turkey sausage at all. It’s a pretty convincing substitute for pork.

One of the biggest benefits that this sandwich has over its Sausage, Egg & Cheese counterpoint is that it is much lower in calories. One of these sandwiches only has 290 calories (compared to 400). This one is higher in sodium, however, at 700 mg (compared to 610 mg).

The Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage, Egg White & Cheese Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches is one of the better-tasting and lower-calorie options in the Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich line. We really like this sandwich, and it goes down great with a cup of hot coffee.
