We typically review frozen food here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, but we make the occasional exception when we find something that piques our curiosity. For example, we love the Frontera line of frozen food, so we really wanted to give their salsa a try. Today we’re digging into the Frontera Tomatillo Salsa.
This isn’t the first Frontera salsa we’ve reviewed. A while back, we tried the Chunky Mexicana Salsa, and we wrote, “We have no qualms saying this is a great salsa.” Today’s offering is a bit more green, however, as it’s a salsa verde.
While other types of salsa are great on corn chips, salsa verde is much better if you eat it on a Mexican-style meal, such as tacos or burritos. We actually tried ours on a plate full of taquitos, and it made for a great pairing.
As you can see in the image above, this salsa is loaded up with high-quality ingredients, like serrano peppers, cilantro, and garlic. The chunks of onion are gigantic — about the size of your thumbnail. The base is made from tomatillos and tomatoes, though the tomatoes are pretty subtle here. This salsa actually ends up having just a little bit of a citrusy taste.
So how’s the spice level? Well, the jar rates the spiciness at a medium, but we’d say this is pretty mild. It’s more tangy than spicy, though you will find your sinuses clearing out if you eat a lot of salsa.
The Frontera Tomatillo Salsa is a high-quality salsa verde that pairs well with Mexican-style cooking. While it’s not a frozen food, we here at Freezer Meal Frenzy give it our stamp of approval.
