Jimmy Dean Meat Lovers Breakfast Bowl Review

Jimmy Dean Meat Lovers Breakfast Bowl

As big fans of breakfast sandwiches, we’re becoming quite well-acquainted with the Jimmy Dean line of frozen breakfast foods. However, Jimmy Dean is not a one-trick pony, and their line contains more than just sandwiches. The Jimmy Dean Meat Lovers Breakfast Bowl, for example, is no sandwich. No, this is a scrambled breakfast that promises hearty portions of meat.

Does this breakfast bowl live up to those expectations? Let’s dig in and find out.

Typically, we like to leave Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches in the refrigerator overnight before we cook them up. With the breakfast bowl, however, you’ll want to cook this straight out of the freezer. (You can read the full cooking instructions at the bottom of this article.)

With any frozen dish that has the term meat lovers in the title, we tend to be skeptical because so many of these meals simply use the term willy-nilly. A lot of meals for meat lovers don’t contain all that much meat. They should change the title to say people who casually enjoy meat now and again. Anyway, that’s not a problem here. As you can see in the image below, almost half this meal is meat.

Marie Callender's Chili with Beans Pot Pie

It’s not a huge variety of meat types; it’s really just crumbled pork sausage with a little bit of bacon. The pork sausage tastes pretty alright — it has a nice bite to it and some of the pieces can be really juicy. However, the bacon is a bit too dry, and it does sort of downgrade the overall consistency of the meal. The bacon tastes pretty good — and its addition definitely makes the flavor more complex — but the consistency takes a hit because of how dry it is.

Aside from the meat, there are chunks of potato in this bowl. They’re soft and buttery, as well as making this already-filling meal even more robust. The scrambled egg portion is light, fluffy, and flavorful, but it’s a little crispy around the edges, which we found to be somewhat unappealing.

And then, of course, all of these components are glued together with shredded cheddar cheese. Too many of the Jimmy Dean frozen foods we’ve tried use American cheese, so cheddar is definitely a welcome addition to this hearty breakfast bowl.

With 490 calories (330 from fat) and 1,130 mg of sodium, this is not a breakfast you’ll want to eat every day. This thing is absolutely loaded with calories. We think this is probably for those who need to power-load on protein in a hurry before a hard day’s work.

The Jimmy Dean Meat Lovers Breakfast Bowl is a pretty good breakfast for those in dire need of protein. For dieters, however, this is one of those foods you’re probably better off skipping, as the calories are just too high to work this into a strict diet.

Why are you filling the meat lover bowls with 80 % cheese? Maybe you should just change the name to cheese lover…. Not buying it anymore…
