Trader Joe’s Handsome Cut Potato Fries Review

Trader Joe's Handsome Cut Potato Fries

While we appreciate a good French fry, we can’t say we’ve ever thought of them as being handsome. However, Trader Joe’s doesn’t hold back when it comes to complimenting their own frozen fries! Trader Joe’s Handsome Cut Potato Fries are reasonably easy on the eyes, and they also make a pretty decent side dish.

When we sliced open the bag and tossed some of these fries onto a baking sheet, we were struck by how much they looked like actual potatoes. You can even see little bits of potato skin! If you’re a big fan of homemade French fries but don’t want to spend your day slicing up potatoes, these pre-sliced fries are a pretty good option.

Trader Joe’s recommends cooking a full bag of fries for 14 minutes, but we wound up cooking a half bag of fries for a little longer than that. After 18 minutes in the oven, our fries didn’t look especially crispy, but they definitely tasted like they were cooked through.

There’s nothing fancy about these fries, and they aren’t heavily seasoned; there’s nothing here but potatoes, vegetable oil, and salt. That’s why we were surprised by how soft and flavorful they are. We’d say they’re best when dipped in some sort of sauce, but they’re good enough to eat plain. We even enjoyed munching on our leftover fries when they were cold!

Trader Joe’s isn’t trying to replicate the taste of fast food French fries here, and if that’s what you’re craving, you’ll want to look elsewhere. These fries really taste like they were made from fresh potatoes. At only 140 calories per serving, they’re definitely a healthy alternative to your standard fries.

We were surprised by how much we enjoyed Trader Joe’s Handsome Cut Potato Fries. This is a plain, simple, natural fry that lets you appreciate the taste of potatoes. If you’re trying to eat a healthier diet, but still can’t resist a good French fry now and again, these attractively sliced potatoes are definitely worth considering.
