The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff has a weakness for cute food, so it goes without saying that we love mini waffles. Normal-sized waffles look okay, but itty-bitty waffles are incredibly cute. We also love waffles with interesting flavors, which is why the 365 Everyday Value Apple Cinnamon Mini Waffles caught our attention. (The 365 Everyday Value brand, by the way, is exclusive to Whole Foods.)
If you’re a regularly Freezer Meal Frenzy reader, you may know that we don’t have a toaster in our office! Right now, the bulk of our budget goes towards filling our freezer with tasty frozen goodies. Thankfully, it’s easy to cook these waffles without a toaster if you have a toaster oven. And we do! After just a few minutes, our waffles were perfectly crispy and ready to eat.
We were slightly disappointed with 365’s take on blueberry waffles. The waffles were fine, but they were kind of plain; you couldn’t really taste the blueberry at all. That’s not a problem with the apple-cinnamon variety –these waffles have a strong apple flavor, and the cinnamon gives them a nice hint of spice. In fact, we’d say that these waffles are so flavorful that you could eat them without any kind of syrup at all.
Because we love maple syrup, we decided to douse our waffles in the stuff anyway. Even though these waffles have a very distinctive taste, they blend nicely with the sweet flavor of the syrup. If you’re not in the mood for syrup but you’d still like to kick these waffles up a notch, we also think they’d taste terrific with a spoonful of cream.
If you’re looking for tiny waffles that are packed with flavor, 365 Everyday Value Apple Cinnamon Mini Waffles are a must-try breakfast food. The strong apple taste makes them perfect for a fall breakfast, but we’d be glad to eat these waffles any season. If you’re at Whole Foods, and you’re planning on picking up frozen waffles, this is a breakfast treat we strongly recommend.
