Devour Loaded Potatoes with Angus Beef & Bacon Second Opinion

Devour Loaded Potatoes with Angus Beef & Bacon

If you’ve been a reader of Freezer Meal Frenzy for a while now, you’re probably thinking the Devour Loaded Potatoes with Angus Beef & Bacon look familiar. It’s true; we have reviewed this item before. However, since then, we’ve been able to check out Devour’s breakfast line, and we now have other meals to compare this one against. In fact, this seems a little bit like a combination of the Spicy Chorizo Queso Hash and the Steak n’ Eggs with Creamy Gravy.

If all of the justification in the previous paragraph seems a little overstated, you’re probably thinking, “The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff doth protest too much, methinks.” Well, you’re onto us; really we just wanted to find an excuse to eat this meal again. So today we’re going to revisit an old, tasty friend.

The last time we reviewed this, we found the Angus beef to be the best part of this entire meal. Upon our second tasting, we have to say we still agree with our previous assessment. This is some really high-quality beef — it’s much better than the beef in any frozen meal is expected to be. It’s juicy, tender, and loaded up with beefy flavor that we really enjoy. Of course, we’re not sure this beef is quite as good as the steak in the Steak n’ Eggs with Creamy Gravy, because that stuff was astonishingly good. Still, this is some top-notch beef.

Like the Spicy Chorizo Queso Hash, this meal comes in a gooey queso. However, there are some major differences. First off, there’s not as much of the stuff here as there is in the breakfast meal, which you can clearly see in the image above. Secondly, this meal isn’t as spicy as the Queso Hash, though we’re not sure if the credit for the spiciness in the Queso Hash should go to the queso or to the chorizo. Either way, this isn’t quite as spicy, though it does still have a little bit of kick to it.

The potatoes make up a bulk of this meal, which gives it a nice, earthy overall flavor while making it a bit heartier than a potato-less meal would be. That’s just fine with us.

Of course, the word bacon is in the title of this dish, though we found the bacon portion to be scant here. There is also a bit of mozzarella cheese, but it doesn’t do a whole lot besides act as a bit of a stretchy food glue to keep the various components chunked together in delicious little clumps. We’re not complaining about either of these things — the beef, potatoes, and queso work hard enough that we can’t be disappointed that the bacon and mozzarella portion sizes are a little small. Still, if you’re expecting tons of bacon and a giant portion of mozzarella, you’re going to be a little bummed out by what’s actually here.

As we pointed out the last time we reviewed this, the Devour Loaded Potatoes with Angus Beef & Bacon contain 330 calories (130 from fat) and 980 mg of sodium. While this is quite lower in calories than many of Devour’s other meals, it’s absolutely loaded with sodium. Keep that in mind if you’re trying to reduce your sodium intake.

As we expected, we loved the Devour Loaded Potatoes with Angus Beef & Bacon just as much the second time as we did originally. This is a great frozen meal that we really enjoyed coming back to. Now hopefully we can find an excuse to write a third opinion so we can write about it yet again!
