Archer Farms Garlic & Cheese Stuffed Mushroom Caps Review

Archer Farms Garlic & Cheese Stuffed Mushroom Caps

There are few things we enjoy here at Freezer Meal Frenzy more than a mouthful of mushrooms. As a result, we constantly find ourselves reviewing frozen foods that contain mushrooms, such as the Archer Farms Mushroom Risotto Bites and the Sweet Earth Truffle Lover’s Pizza. Today is looking to be another mushroom-filled day at the Freezer Meal Frenzy office, as we’re reviewing the Archer Farms Garlic & Cheese Stuffed Mushroom Caps.

Archer Farms is a proprietary brand of Target, so if you spend a lot of time in Target stores (which we do), then you’ve probably seen these around. Unfortunately, the customer reviews for this item on the Target website are pretty abysmal. At the time of this writing, these have a one-star customer rating.

But we’re not going to let some bad reviews deter us from eating more mushrooms, so let’s find out what these are all about.

First off, we should point out that these are not designed to be a substantial meal, which should be clear the second you take these out of the freezer. The package weighs almost nothing. Even so, these are smaller than we even expected based off the weight. Each piece could fit inside a ping pong ball with room to spare.

Now, the customer review we read complained about how rubbery the mushrooms are here, and we really can’t disagree. These are tough and chewy, and they feel a bit dried out on the outside. This dryness is especially strange, because the insides are actually really watery, and not in a good way. Mushroom water gushes out when you bite into one of these. It’s rather unpleasant.

However, the filling is actually really tasty. It’s a blend of cream cheese, asiago, and parmesan, with garlic and chives mixed in. It’s especially rich and creamy, with a flavor we’d say is cravable. When you smell these cooking, your mouth will start watering at the scent of the garlic.

Four pieces is considered a serving, and there are two servings in a box. One serving contains just 120 calories (80 from fat) and 340 mg of sodium. That means a full box contains 240 calories (160 from fat) and 680 mg of sodium. While that’s not bad at all, keep in mind that these are not a meal — they’re just a small appetizer. You definitely won’t be filling up on mushroom caps unless you buy several boxes.

The Archer Farms Garlic & Cheese Stuffed Mushroom Caps feature a great filling that’s stuffed into some subpar mushrooms. With better mushrooms, this would be a fantastic appetizer. In their current state, these are an imperfect yet tasty snack food.
