Good Food Made Simple Uncured Bacon Scramble Bowl Review

Good Food Made Simple Uncured Bacon Scramble Bowl

If you’re anything like us, you grew up being told that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. As it turns out, that wasn’t really true, and the phrase was created as part of a campaign to push cereal on the general public. Still, it’s hard to shake the habit once you’ve started, and breakfast foods tend to be some of the best foods out there. So we’re always excited to check out more breakfast items here at Freezer Meal Frenzy.

Today, we’re trying the Good Food Made Simple Uncured Bacon Scramble Bowl. Once we got this into our office, we realized it was awfully similar to the Uncured Bacon and Eggs Scramble Bowl, which we’d reviewed in the past. We compared the ingredients lists on both packages, and as it turns out, the meal we’re trying today has gone through some rebranding, because nothing has changed besides the title. Even so, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to revisit this frozen breakfast food.

As we mentioned when we tried the previous version of this breakfast scramble, this is a simple dish. It’s a basic bacon, egg, potato, and cheese blend that doesn’t do a whole lot to make itself seem fancy. But sometimes, simplicity is exactly what you need — especially from a brand that has the word Simple in its name.

Let’s start with the eggs. These are actually really tasty eggs, with a lot more flavor than we’d expect from a frozen breakfast scramble. The portion size is good too, as we’d estimate that about half this bowl is eggs. They have a light, almost fluffy consistency, though we did notice a few pieces to be just a little bit rubbery.

Then there are cubes of roasted russet potatoes. They add some much-needed body to this meal, making it feel a bit hardier than it otherwise would. They taste great too, with an especially salty flavor that really works here.

To continue that salty trend is the bacon, which comes in tiny, gravely grounds rather than strips or chunks. While the portion size isn’t huge, the bacon works really hard in the flavor department. As we mentioned earlier, it’s a little salty, but that complements the other ingredients in a way that feels satisfying.

There’s a bit of cheese mixed into this scramble, which we’re told is a white sharp cheddar. However, there isn’t enough of it for the flavor to really come to the surface — here, it merely serves to clump together the eggs. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with that, but we would have definitely loved to have had more of it here. As is, it seems like it’s here to check off a box rather than to add anything meaningful to the dish.

If you’re a calorie counter, you might be a little disappointed to learn that this dish contains 340 calories (180 from fat). While that’s not enough to break a diet, there are plenty of lower-calorie breakfast options in the freezer aisle. The Chicken Apple Sausage Breakfast Burrito, also by Good Food Made Simple, contains 290 calories, for example.

The Good Food Made Simple Uncured Bacon Scramble Bowl is a simple breakfast without any surprises. If simplicity is what you crave, this is a pretty good way to kick off your morning. However, if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, you’ll probably want to look into other options. The Power Veggies Flatbread Breakfast Sandwiches are just one alternative if you’re looking for something a little more exciting.
