Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches Review

Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches

At a glance, the Jimmy Dean line of frozen breakfast foods seem rather small. However, once you start actually digging in, you realize that Jimmy Dean actually makes several variations on each sandwich, and when you count all the various types, you’ll see for yourself that this is actually a pretty substantial line. So when we first spotted the Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches, we’d thought we’d already reviewed them. Thankfully, we checked them against our list of already-reviewed items and found out that we’d actually missed these. We’re going to rectify that today.

Even though this is our first time trying these sandwiches, we did try some similar items in the past. For example, the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches swap out the sausage for bacon, while the Sausage Biscuit Snack Size Sandwiches offer a snack-sized variation on the one we’re reviewing today.

Like many of the sandwich packs in the Jimmy Dean line, this one contains four sandwiches, and each one comes individually wrapped. While many of the other sandwiches come in a single packet that’s perforated so it can be broken apart, these ones are packaged in separate bags, as you can see in the image below.

If you find yourself gravitating to this specific Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich, the likely draw is the biscuit. After all, this same sandwich also comes on a croissant or an english muffin. So let’s talk about the biscuit first. The flavor profile is alright with a subtle sweetness that we enjoy, though we’re not sure we like the consistency. It has the sort of dryness that makes it turn into a concrete-like paste once you bite into it.

The rest of this sandwich is pretty typical of a Jimmy Dean breakfast option, with sausage, egg, and American cheese wedged between the two pieces of biscuit.

We’ve said this before, but we’d prefer a cheddar to an American cheese any day of the week, but Jimmy Dean tends to use American. It’s not our favorite thing in the world, but it works here well enough that we won’t complain too much. We just can’t help but wonder how much better these would be with cheddar.

The sausage here is pretty darn tasty. It’s a pork and chicken combo that has a spicy flavor with just a little hint of sweetness that reminds us of maple syrup (there is no actual maple syrup in the sausage, however). We’re not sure if we’re imagining this, as breakfast sausage and maple syrup just seem to go together in our minds, or perhaps it’s the subtle sweetness of the biscuit that’s coloring our perspective. Either way, we find the sausage to be the best part of this meal.

There is also an egg patty on this thing, but it’s the component that affects the flavor profile the least. It has a good texture to it, and it makes the sandwich feel a little heartier than it would otherwise, but it’s really just there as one of those obvious essentials. Still, we have little to complain about when it comes to the egg patty here.

What we do want to complain about, however, is the size of each sandwich in comparison to the calorie count. These aren’t very big (they seem a bit smaller than the english muffin sandwiches), yet they’re loaded with calories. One sandwich contains 410 calories (250 from fat), and we’re pretty sure you’ll end up eating two at a time. That makes this a pretty calorie-loaded breakfast option, when there are plenty of leaner options on the market.

The Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches might not be our favorite item in the Jimmy Dean line, but they’re still pretty good. We’re not huge fans of the biscuit and the calorie count is quite a bit higher than we’d prefer, but otherwise these taste great and pair well with a cup of coffee.
