DiGiorno Gluten Free Ultra Thin Sausage Supreme Pizza Review

DiGiorno Gluten Free Ultra Thin Sausage Supreme Pizza

If you’re trying to avoid gluten, frozen pizza can be a tricky thing to get excited about due to the crust. Of course, there are a few brands that make sure to offer gluten-free takes on this massively popular meal. For example, the Udi’s brand, which specializes in gluten-free products, does have a line of frozen pizza, which we’ve tried in the past.

But now, DiGiorno is throwing their hat into the gluten-free ring. They’re pretty well-established in the frozen pizza market (that’s a bit of an understatement), so we’re quite interested to see how their foray into the gluten-free realm is working out. Today, we’re checking out the DiGiorno Gluten Free Ultra Thin Sausage Supreme Pizza.

Because this pizza is so thin, the cook time is shorter than what you’d expect from a normal DiGiorno pizza. We cooked ours for 13 minutes (the box says 12), and it came out just right. (If you want to see the full cooking instructions, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

The gluten-free crust is a little bit chewy, but it tastes fine. In fact, it’s pretty close to what we’d expect from a low-end bar-style pizza — not terrible, but not amazing. But that’s not really a big deal, because the crust is so thin that it really doesn’t matter all that much in the grand scheme of things.

And the rest of the ingredients are exactly what you’d expect from DiGiorno: high-quality and delicious. This pizza has the same great-tasting sauce and the snappy, juicy sausage of any other DiGiorno supreme pizza. On top of that, there are some red and green bell peppers and a whole mess of onions. The flavor combination is absolutely great.

For a pizza with the word sausage in the title (this is sausage supreme, not just supreme), we were a little disappointed by the amount of sausage here. We were expecting a lot more. Of course, the pizza still tastes amazing, so we’re not going to complain too much about the sausage portion.

The nutrition content on the box counts half a pizza as a serving (amazing!), though we think it’s quite possible to polish off this whole thing in a single sitting. It’s very thin, which means it’s not all that filling. If you eat just half, you’ll end up with 270 calories (110 from fat) and 520 mg of sodium. That means the full thing has 540 calories (220 from fat) and 1,040 mg of sodium. That’s actually not bad at all for an entire freaking pizza.

The DiGiorno Gluten Free Ultra Thin Sausage Supreme Pizza might be the best gluten-free pizza we’ve tried so far. Sure, the crust isn’t perfect and we would have loved more sausage, but these are just minor nitpicks. Overall, this is not just a really good gluten-free frozen pizza, but a really good pizza in general.
