Trader Joe’s Neapolitan Joe-Joe’s Ice Cream Review

Trader Joe's Neapolitan Joe-Joe's Ice Cream

While we mostly focus on frozen meals, there’s more to the freezer aisle than just your typical Lean Cuisine. Ice cream, for example, is a frozen treat that we can’t get enough of. So we’re quite happy to be checking out the Trader Joe’s Neapolitan Joe-Joe’s Ice Cream today.

A carton of your standard neapolitan usually features neat stripes of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream. This, however, is not your standard neapolitan ice cream. As you can see in the image below, this one removes the chocolate section entirely and replaces is it with a whole bunch of chocolatey sweets.

Those sweets, in case you’re wondering, are Joe-Joe’s cookie bits and pieces of fudge (though it’s hard, melty fudge rather than the softer stuff). Now, our staff was torn on whether or not these sweets could justify the removal of the chocolate ice cream — in fact, our office was split 50/50 on whether or not that was a good call. The staffers who are the most enthusiastic about chocolate ice cream were less willing to overlook its removal than the staffers who prefer a good vanilla were.

What the staff was in complete agreement upon, however, was that this ice cream is absolutely delicious. The vanilla is super sweet, and the strawberry portion tastes surprisingly authentic. The cookie bits are quite large, and the fudge really brings the whole thing together. This is a really tasty frozen treat.

Even though you’re going to want to eat a full container in a sitting, you should practice some restraint. A carton of this stuff contains 840 calories. Trader Joe’s recommends approximately 1/3 of the carton for a serving, which has 280 calories.

The Trader Joe’s Neapolitan Joe-Joe’s Ice Cream is absolutely wonderful. Even if you’re horrified at the idea of completely removing chocolate-flavored ice cream from a carton of neapolitan, what’s left is delicious enough that it will probably win you over in the end regardless. If you want to try this — and we think you should — you’ll definitely need to hurry, as Trader Joe’s is saying this is a limited-time item.
