Jimmy Dean Delights: Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Honey Wheat Flatbread Sandwiches Review

Jimmy Dean Delights: Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Honey Wheat Flatbread Sandwiches

We’re always surprised by just how many different options there are in Jimmy Dean’s breakfast sandwich lineup. Really, this shouldn’t baffle us so much, as it’s just basic math. When you have several types of meat, two types of egg, and a vast assortment of options for the shell, that leads to a very large amount of possibilities. Jimmy Dean seems like it wants to try to make every single one of them — and we here at Freezer Meal Frenzy want to try to sample all of them!

Today we’re checking out the Jimmy Dean Delights: Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Honey Wheat Flatbread Sandwiches. Jimmy Dean will put a sandwich on anything, from croissants and english muffins to egg patties. This is our first time encountering their flatbread sandwiches, however, so we’re pretty excited to see what they’re all about.

As you can see in the image below, these come four to a box, and each sandwich is individually wrapped.

You can either cook these from frozen, or thaw them out in the refrigerator overnight and cook them from refrigerated. When we have the choice, we always go with the latter option. Letting them thaw reduces the cook time and prevents them from being frozen in the middle. It’s our preferred method of cooking any breakfast sandwiches, really. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

When you pull one of these sandwiches out of the microwave, it looks a little bit smashed down, not unlike a McDonald’s hamburger.

That’s not a bad thing, though. The smashed-down look is really just a product of these using slices of honey wheat flatbread, which by their very nature are flatter than other types of buns. This flatbread tastes great, and it’s coated in grains for a wonderful texture. Most importantly, though, flatbread holds up really well when microwaved. As a result, these sandwiches don’t end up soggy at all.

The egg portion is pretty average. It tastes fine and it actually has more flavor than a lot of the other frozen egg patties we’ve tried. The cheese is a basic processed American cheese, which is definitely not our first choice (we would have loved a swiss or cheddar here), but ends up tasting just fine.

The real treat, though, is the turkey sausage patty. This turkey sausage has none of the flaws that so many other varieties of the stuff tend to have. It’s not rubbery, and it tastes convincingly like pork sausage. It has a wonderful flavor and a little bit of bite to it. It’s a turkey sausage miracle!

One sandwich contains 260 calories and 620 mg of sodium. That’s not really bad on its own, but you most likely will want to eat two of these as a breakfast. Being thin as they are, a single sandwich doesn’t really fill you up.

The Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Honey Wheat Flatbread Sandwiches are pretty tasty. In fact, we think the flatbread approach really works well for Jimmy Dean. We certainly hope to find more varieties of flatbread breakfast sandwich in the near future — if we do, we’ll be sure to weigh in on those ones as well!
