Lunds & Byerlys Tomato Basil Soup Review

Lunds & Byerlys Tomato Basil Soup

While our staffers are happy to eat basic tomato soup straight from the can, sometimes we want something a little fancier to pair with our grilled cheese. The Lunds & Byerlys Tomato Basil Soup has all the appeal of a basic tomato soup, but it’s also bursting with flavor. If you’ve been hunting for a tomato soup that feels a little more grown-up, this product is perfect for you.

Not all of our readers will recognize Lunds & Byerlys. This is the store brand of the Minnesota upscale grocery store chain of the same name. If you’re in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota and you haven’t checked out the L&B frozen food section, we strongly suggest you give it a look!

Heating up Lunds & Byerlys soups is a little strange, but it’s a pretty simple process. The frozen soup is packaged in a plastic bag. All you have to do is boil some water, toss in the soup bag, and wait for it to thaw. It took us about seven minutes to heat the soup to the appropriate temperature for eating.

This is a pretty smooth soup that’s perfect for dunking sandwiches. However, there are some large chunks of tomato in the mix, which makes the soup feel heartier and gives it a more interesting texture. This is also creamier than your average bowl of tomato soup, probably because it’s made with milk.

It’s not unusual for us to add a little bit of pepper or salt to store-bought soups, but this doesn’t need any extra seasoning. It’s perfect straight out of the box. It’s not the most filling meal, but if you pair it with a sandwich or a salad, that shouldn’t a problem.

The Lunds & Byerlys Tomato Basil Soup is the perfect tomato soup. While we do wish the package had more than one serving, we thoroughly enjoyed every last bite. This is a delicious, flavor-packed soup that would be perfect on a chilly day.
