Trader Joe’s Organic Riced Cauliflower Review

Trader Joe's Organic Riced Cauliflower

The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff probably eats too many carbs, which is why we’re always open to trying low-carb alternatives. We’ve sampled a number of cauliflower rice dishes in the past, and for the most part, we’ve enjoyed them.

The Trader Joe’s Organic Riced Cauliflower is a pretty basic take on this cauliflower-based side dish, but it seems like a handy thing to keep in your freezer.

Trader Joe’s recommends cooking this on the stovetop, but we went for the faster option and nuked this in the microwave. It took us around three minutes to cook up a third of the bag. The process was virtually effortless, and our rice was perfectly cooked when it came out of the microwave.

The smell of cauliflower is pretty strong here, and there isn’t really any seasoning that would cover up the taste of cauliflower. This is made with cauliflower, salt, and nothing else. If you’re not a big fan of cauliflower, you’ll probably have to make a few changes before you dig into this rice.

Since this rice is pretty basic, it didn’t really blow us away. That said, it’s a breeze to make and it has a pretty appealing texture. If you pair it with your favorite stir-fry veggies and a protein, it could be a part of a tasty meal. If you just eat it plain, like we did, you might not be impressed.

Trader Joe’s Organic Riced Cauliflower is a solid replacement for carb-heavy rice. Yes, it does taste like cauliflower, and no it doesn’t have any extra ingredients, but the simplicity of this frozen food is pretty appealing. If you’ve been on the lookout for a low-carb rice substitute, this cauliflower is definitely an option worth considering.
