Lean Cuisine Buffalo Style Chicken Review

Lean Cuisine Buffalo Style Chicken

We sure do love our buffalo chicken here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. We’ll eat it in anything from mac and cheese to sandwiches, and we enjoy it on its own as well. But what about with mashed potatoes? That’s a combination we haven’t tried before, so the Lean Cuisine Buffalo Style Chicken caught our eye immediately.

Like most Lean Cuisine frozen meals, this one is a cinch to cook. Pop it in the microwave, give it a stir, and pop it back in. The whole process takes about five minutes, meaning this is something you could realistically pack in your work lunch. (To see the full cooking instructions, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

The chicken here is a little bit hard and way too gristly. It also doesn’t have a lot of flavor to it, which actually wouldn’t be a problem with a really high-quality buffalo sauce.

However, as big fans of buffalo sauce, we’re sorry to report that this stuff just isn’t very good. It’s runny, and it has a vinegar taste to it, which is off-putting. It’s a little bit spicy, but certainly not enough to please buffalo sauce fanatics. The runniness of this sauce also causes a lot of it to seep into the mashed potatoes.

And the potatoes are already not great. There’s some garlic (and maybe even some bacon, if you believe the packaging) tossed into it, but that doesn’t mitigate the fact that these mashed potatoes don’t have much flavor. They’re also a bit watery, which is only exacerbated by the runny buffalo sauce. Plus, as it turns out, buffalo sauce and mashed potatoes aren’t really all that great together in the first place.

At least this frozen meal lives up to the “Lean” part of the Lean Cuisine brand name. With just 190 calories, this is going to appeal to dieters. The sodium is a tad high, at 660 mg, but that’s pretty close to what you’d expect from any frozen meal.

The Lean Cuisine Buffalo Style Chicken might satisfy a buffalo chicken craving if it’s your only possible option. However, there are tons of buffalo chicken products in the freezer aisle that are way better than this. Tyson and Archer Farms both sell versions of buffalo chicken bites, and the Devour Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese is a personal favorite of ours. You really don’t need to settle for Lean Cuisine’s take on the dish.
