The Freezer Meal Frenzy staffers don’t really know much about authentic Mongolian food, but we’ve enjoyed Mongolian barbecue many times. It’s a great option for all of our staffers, especially the ones that are looking for vegetarian and vegan options. If you’re in that boat, the Sweet Earth Awesome Mongolian Beefless Bowl is a dish you might want to try.
As far as cooking goes, this is a pretty basic microwavable meal. Toss it in the microwave for a minute, give it a good stir, and then cook it for a little bit more. As you can see in the image below, it doesn’t look all that pretty when it’s fully cooked, but we promise that it smells delicious!
When Sweet Earth describes this as a beefless bowl, they really aren’t kidding. Not only does this contain no real beef, but it contains hardly any faux beef. We barely noticed the imitation ground rounds in our bowl. Thankfully, there were plenty of veggies, such as water chestnuts, carrots, and sugar snap peas to make up for the shortage of beefless beef.
This meal may be lacking in fake meat, but it’s absolutely loaded with sauce. The fiery Mongolian-inspired sauce is a delicious blend of sweet and spicy, but if we’d eaten the meal as-is, our bowl would have wound up looking like it was full of soup. We wound up adding a little bit of rice to the dish, and we’d recommend that you do the same.
The Sweet Earth Awesome Mongolian Beefless Bowl isn’t perfect, but we really enjoy it anyway. The sauce is phenomenal; we’d gladly keep a bottle in our offices if Sweet Earth sold it separately. If you frequently have leftover rice in your fridge, and you enjoy frozen meals with a little bit of a kick, this is a dish we can strongly recommend.
