Amy’s Indian Inspired Vegetable Pakoras Review

Amy's Indian Inspired Vegetable Pakoras

Pakoras is a fried, fritter-like dish that’s traditionally served as a street food. While we’ve never had authentic pakora before, we’re guessing that this dish from Amy’s is definitely different from the real deal. The Amy’s Indian Inspired Vegetable Pakoras aren’t a snack but a full-fledged meal that’s slightly reminiscent of a curry dish.

Amy’s cooking instructions state that this should be popped into the microwave for 4 to 5 minutes with the overwrap on. We double-checked, but the instructions don’t say anything about making slits. We have to assume that a step is missing here, because following the instructions left us with a bit of a mess. The dish oozed out, getting all over the packaging and leaving us with a mess on our plate. Everything seemed like it cooked fine, but we’d recommend making a slit in the packing before tossing this in the microwave.

When we bit into this, we were taken aback by how tart it was. We’re assuming that the slightly-sour flavor comes from the lowfat yogurt that’s used here to make the creamy sauce. The texture is fantastic, but we’re not totally sold on the flavor. Every once in a while, we’d get the perfect mix of ingredients on our fork. More often than not, though, we weren’t crazy about the way this tasted.

While we aren’t sold on the sauce, the pakoras, which are made from fried potatoes and cauliflowers, are pretty appealing. They have a meaty texture that we really enjoy. If Amy’s were to re-tool this dish and pair the pakoras with a different kind of sauce, we think we’d really enjoy this.

The Amy’s Indian Inspired Vegetable Pakoras wasn’t the biggest hit with our staffers. Following the cooking instructions left us with a mess, and the sour sauce wasn’t to our liking. If you’re in the mood for Indian, and don’t want to order takeout, we’d recommend looking at Deep Indian Kitchen or other products in the Amy’s line.
