Healthy Choice Adobo Chicken Wrap Review

Healthy Choice Adobo Chicken Wrap

If you read our previous Healthy Choice review, you might have detected sharp hints of bitterness. See, we stopped reviewing Healthy Choice food after one of their Power Bowls started a fire in our microwave. While we’re trying to work past it, we’re still harboring some resentment toward the brand.

But we’re working on it.

Part of that work is testing out the Healthy Choice line of frozen wraps, which seem unlikely to start any fires (though we’re always prepared to put one out if we end up underestimating the flammability of a particular wrap). So today we’re moving deeper into that line, with the Healthy Choice Adobo Chicken Wrap.

This wrap has one of those really weird sets of cooking instructions that require you to adjust your microwave power settings. While we typically don’t like instructions like these, we’re biting our tongues here because we’re still working on that whole forgiveness thing. It’s hard, though. (If you want to read the cooking instructions straight of the package, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

Healthy Choice Adobo Chicken Wrap

The chicken is the best part of this meal. It’s rich and flavorful, and it has a nice juicy consistency. And while we wouldn’t exactly say this is a generous portion of chicken, it’s also not as skimpy as it could be.

The guajillo chili sauce and pinto beans lend this some southwestern vibes, and we dig that. However, we think this wrap overuses kale. The kale flavor overpowers everything else, which is unfortunate because it’s a low-quality kale that tastes pungent and dirty. The wrap would actually be pretty good without it.

There are also some pieces of corn, which add a lovely pop of flavor, and some pumpkin seed kernels, which add some unnecessary crunch.

As part of the Healthy Choice line, this actually has more calories than we’d expect, at 330 calories per wrap. The sodium is lower than the average frozen meal, though, at 500 mg. Of course, it’s not very filling, and when we finished eating this, we immediately went back into the kitchen to scrounge up more food.

The Healthy Choice Adobo Chicken Wrap had a shot at being a decent wrap, but the trashy kale went and ruined it. Without the kale (or even with some better-quality kale), this could have been pretty alright. As is, we think it’s pretty not alright.
