Morningstar Farms Veggitizers aren’t exactly traditional pizza rolls. These frozen snacks are vegan and use breading instead of dough. Still, they might be good enough to satisfy your pizza roll cravings. We were impressed with the pepperoni flavored bites when we tried them, and we hoped that the Morningstar Farms Veggitizers Veggie Sausage Pizza Bites would be just as tasty.
If you’ve ever made a batch of pizza rolls in the oven before, you shouldn’t have an issue heating these snacks up. Toss them in the oven, flip them over after nine minutes, then let them cook for about five minutes longer. There are also microwave instructions, but we suspect that the bites wouldn’t be quite as crispy if they were cooked that way.
We wouldn’t go so far as to call these bites spicy, but the veggie sausage is really nicely seasoned. We’re not quite sure what sort of spices are used here — the label says “garlic powder” and “spices” — but the flavor is great, especially when combined with the gooey vegan cheese. It’s not a perfect match for actual sausage, but it’s pretty comparable to the fillings you might find in non-vegan pizza rolls.
The vegan cheese is also pretty convincing. We’ve been disappointed by a lot of imitation cheeses in the past. Sometimes they’re runny, sometimes they have a strange aftertaste, and sometimes they just feel off. This doesn’t taste like gourmet cheese, but it does taste very good, especially when paired with the flavorful sausage.
The Morningstar Farms Veggitizers Veggie Sausage Pizza Bites are a vegan treat that we can strongly recommend. In fact, we’d suggest these frozen snacks even if you’re not avoiding meat and cheese. The seasoning is great, and we love the way the breading tastes with pizza-roll filling. While we think the sausage version is a little better than the pepperoni, both options are delicious.
