Amy’s Chili Mac isn’t one of our favorite frozen meals, but it is a dish we find ourselves going back to every now and again. There’s just something very soothing about digging into a big bowl of chili mac and cheese.

The Amy’s Vegan Chili Mac & Cheeze, which we’re reviewing today, is a dairy-free take on this classic comfort meal.

Amy’s frozen meals are always easy to prepare, and this is no exception. While this may not be the prettiest dish out there, you can heat it up and have it ready to eat in about five minutes. If you don’t have a microwave on hand, you can make this for around 40 minutes in the microwave.

How does it taste? Well, it isn’t amazing, but neither was the original, non-vegan version of this dish. The chili isn’t particularly spicy, and the pasta tastes more like boxed mac and cheese than something made from scratch. Sometimes vegan cheese has a weird aftertaste, but we didn’t really notice that here. We’d say the original dish has a slightly creamier sauce, but there’s not a substantial difference between the two meals.

The nutritional content of the two meals is also fairly similar. The vegan mac contains 410 calories, while the version with real cheese has 420 calories. Both dishes are made with organic ingredients, and both use gluten-free pasta. The vegan meal does contain fewer carbs, but it’s not a dramatic difference.

The Amy’s Vegan Chili Mac & Cheeze is a great vegan-free alternative to the original Amy’s Chili Mac. These dishes may not taste totally identical, but they’re incredibly similar. If you’re trying to avoid dairy, and you’re looking for some comfort food options, this meal is a solid choice.
