Trader Joe’s “This Pumpkin Walks into a Bar…” Cereal Bars Review

Trader Joe's "This Pumpkin Walks into a Bar..." Cereal Bars

Not too long ago, we did a week of fall-themed Trader Joe’s reviews. These products weren’t frozen, but every item was something we were really interested in trying out. It was a great week of good food and good reviews.

However, we missed one item that we really wanted to write about: the Trader Joe’s “This Pumpkin Walks into a Bar…” Cereal Bars. We’re making up for it today, though. If you came here for the frozen food reviews, know that we plan on going back to our frozen food routine tomorrow — today is just a special pumpkin day for us.

There are six pumpkin bars per box, and, as you can see in the image above, each one comes individually wrapped. That makes one of these great to toss into a lunch box, or to stuff into a coat pocket so you have a snack for later on.

These are a little bit like long fig newtons in a way, with a wheat bran outer shell that’s packed with pumpkin filling. The pumpkin filling is made from real pumpkin, with nutmeg and cinnamon to really drive home the flavor. It’s very good, and pretty pupkin-y (though not overwhelmingly so).

The only real issue we had with these is that the outer shell is really dry, in a way that sucks the moisture out of your mouth. If you don’t pair these with a beverage, you’re going to have a super dry mouth after eating one. Thankfully, they pair really well with a nice cup of coffee.

One bar contains 130 calories and 85 mg of sodium. That seems pretty fair for a snack item to us, though you certainly don’t want to eat a whole box in a sitting. We’re sure someone out there has done it, but we don’t recommend it. These are best as a snack or as a side to a broader meal.

The Trader Joe’s “This Pumpkin Walks into a Bar…” Cereal Bars are a pumpkin-filled treat that goes well with a cup of coffee. While they’re a little dry on the outside, they’re also quite delicious. We’ll definitely be picking up more of these to keep around the office.
