Trader Joe’s Brazilian Style Cheese Bread Review

Trader Joe's Brazilian Style Cheese Bread

When we picked up the Trader Joe’s Brazilian Style Cheese Bread, the person at the checkout counter got really excited. They enthusiastically explained that this was an item that’s popular at East Coast Trader Joe’s stores, but it’s being available in our region for the first time. We’re not sure how accurate this information is, but it made us really excited to try these out.

These are pretty easy to cook. Simply preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit, place the bread bites on a baking sheet, and pop them in for eight minutes or so. Ours took ten minutes, which is a little longer than what the package said, but this is still not a long cook time for a conventional oven.

These are made using tapioca flour, which gives them a really interesting consistency. They’re dry and a little bit crispy on the outside, and moist and kind of rubbery on the inside. Now, the term rubbery might not sound appealing, but it’s actually not a bad consistency here. We just don’t know a better word to describe how these actually feel when you bite into them.

The description on the box makes it sound like these have a cheesy filling, but they actually don’t (which is pretty clear if you look at the image on the box). Instead, there’s a cheese flavor (due to the parmesan cheese) that permeates every bite. And if you chomp these down when they’re still warm, they’re a dream to eat.

The box considers two pieces to be a serving, which contains 190 calories and 310 mg of sodium. We think you’ll be tempted to eat more than that, though, as these are not very big. We split these between two reviewers, but both of them would have been willing to keep eating had they not been required to share.

The Trader Joe’s Brazilian Style Cheese Bread is a wonderful treat. We’re not sure if the Trader Joe’s cashier was correct about them being new to our region (though we don’t really have any reason to doubt this), but we’re glad they’re here now. We really like these cheesy bread balls.
