Healthy Choice Chicken Marinara Power Bowl Review

Healthy Choice Chicken Marinara Power Bowl

We have to be honest. Healthy Choice’s Power Bowls make us really nervous. You see, we had one of these start a fire in our microwave, and we’ve heard that this was not exactly an isolated incident. There was also a period where people were finding rocks in their Healthy Choice meals, which is super weird. So there was a good long while where we were hesitant to touch anything by the Healthy Choice brand at all.

But recently, we’ve been returning to it, since they put out a whole bunch of new items while we were avoiding them. It does seem like it’s our duty to keep pushing through this line to give our thoughts on every last meal, so here we go.

Today we’re checking out the Healthy Choice Chicken Marinara Power Bowl. Yes, we were nervous, but we made sure to keep a watchful eye on this while it was cooking. The good news is that it didn’t start any fires. The bad news is that it came out of the microwave looking nothing like the tasty meal pictured on the box.

The biggest thing missing here is the marinara. Where did it all go? There was a little bit stuffed into one section of our bowl, which you can see in the image above (it’s that reddish-orange splotch at the bottom of the bowl, in case you can’t spot it). Even when we gave this a stir, the marinara never really revealed itself.

Thankfully, there’s still a decent-tasting dish here. The chicken is actually really good. It has a lovely flavor and it’s juicy. While there’s not an enormous portion, there’s still more chicken here than there could have been.

There’s a whole lot of green in this bowl — way more than we expected. There’s a ton of broccoli, as well as kale, spinach, and parsley. All of it tastes fresh, and it lends the meal a healthier taste. It also means the meal we were expecting to be red was actually mostly green.

All of this rests atop a bed of cauliflower rice. It’s actually a good combo for this dish, supporting the green veggies quite well. In fact, we think this was a better choice than your usual rice affair would have been.

If you’re a dieter, you’ll celebrate when you see the nutrition content. At just 210 calories, this is a super guilt-free meal. Of course, there’s also 600 mg of sodium, which is a little bit lower than the average frozen meal but still pretty high.

The Healthy Choice Chicken Marinara Power Bowl is pretty tasty, despite the fact that it’s mostly lacking in marinara. This does still taste fresh and quite lovely, and it’s hard to argue with a calorie count this low.
