Scott & Jon’s Cilantro Lime Shrimp Rice Bowl Review

Scott & Jon's Cilantro Lime Shrimp Rice Bowl

We’ve been really enjoying our time with the Scott & Jon’s line of frozen food lately. They have a whole bunch of shrimp-filled entrées in their lineup, and we’re always happy to eat more shrimp.

Today we’re checking out the Scott & Jon’s Cilantro Lime Shrimp Rice Bowl, which looks quite tasty.

This is a cinch to heat up. Just pop it into the microwave for three and a half minutes and you’re good to go. It’s about as easy as your average Lean Cuisine meal, and the cook time is super short as well. Of course, we did struggle a bit with the plastic film on the top of the bowl, so that made our meal slightly less fast and easy to prepare. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the box, you can check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

This comes out of the microwave smelling potently like limes. In fact, we think that this is overly reliant on lime juice for flavor, as the rice on its own really doesn’t have a lot of oomph to it. It’s kind of salty too. And the scant servings of corn, black beans, and bell peppers don’t add a whole lot; this mostly just tastes like lime juice.

Thankfully, the shrimp here is excellent. It’s rich in buttery flavor, it doesn’t taste overly fishy, and it has a lovely consistency that makes it a joy to bite into. On top of all that, the lime juice does enhance the shrimp flavor without overpowering it.

With just 280 calories, this bowl is definitely made with dieters in mind. Of course, it’s also not very filling, so take that into consideration before diving into this. The sodium level is right on par for your average frozen food, at 690 mg. Remember, frozen food tends to be really high in sodium in general, so if you’re trying to reduce your sodium level, you should steer clear of frozen food in general.

The Scott & Jon’s Cilantro Lime Shrimp Rice Bowl is a mediocre bowl of rice that tastes too much like lime. However, it does contain an excellent portion of shrimp, which is its saving grace. There are better dishes in the Scott & Jon’s line that make use of this same wonderful shrimp, though. We recommend the Shrimp Scampi with Linguini over this meal.
