Trader Joe’s Mango Creamy Almond Cultured Yogurt Alternative Review

Trader Joe's Mango Creamy Almond Cultured Yogurt Alternative

We don’t have any vegans on the Freezer Meal Frenzy team, but we do have some staffers that try to avoid dairy products. That’s why we’re always excited to see alternatives to dairy treats like yogurt. The Trader Joe’s Mango Creamy Almond Cultured Yogurt Alternative is the kind of snack that we like to store in our office fridge.

When we sampled some of TJ’s other non-dairy yogurt alternatives, we were a little put off by how runny they were. As you can see in the image below, that isn’t an issue here. The texture is virtually identical to the texture of real yogurt.

The flavor is pretty similar to actual yogurt too, but we wouldn’t say it’s indistinguishable from the real deal, as there’s an aftertaste here that isn’t fully masked by the fruity mango flavor. It doesn’t taste bad, exactly — it really just tastes like almonds — but the nutty flavor makes it easy to tell that this isn’t real yogurt.

Still, we’d say that this is a fantastic alternative if you’re trying to cut back on your dairy consumption. The mango flavor is light and sweet without being overpowering, and the texture of the yogurt is absolutely perfect. There are 12 grams of added sugar here, but at 190 calories, this is still a reasonably healthy and filling vegan snack.

The Trader Joe’s Mango Creamy Almond Cultured Yogurt Alternative is a step up from the other TJ’s yogurt alternatives we’ve sampled. The strong fruity taste also makes it a more appealing option than TJ’s Vanilla Almond Cultured Yogurt Alternative. If you’re on the lookout for vegan snacks, this is an easy and tasty option.
