Trader Joe’s Ultra Chocolate Super Premium Ice Cream Review

Here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, we review whatever frozen foods we can get our microwave-lovin’ hands on. Usually, that means we review quick-serve meals, but that doesn’t mean we don’t also dig into frozen desserts. Ice cream is definitely a frozen food, and that means it falls under our jurisdiction.

So today, it is with great enthusiasm that we check out the Trader Joe’s Ultra Chocolate Super Premium Ice Cream, which we found during our most recent TJ’s outing. This comes in a quart-sized container, which makes this double the size of many of the other TJ’s ice cream products we’ve sampled.

That larger size is a double-edged sword. This is very tasty, so the more the better. However, it’s also hard to stop eating this once you’ve started, so a larger size means more temptation. Proceed with caution.

So let’s get into the nitty gritty of this tub of the good stuff.

As you can see in the image above, this is a dark, rich ice cream. This isn’t your average chocolate ice cream; it’s astonishingly flavorful. In fact, this is almost more like a fudge flavor than a chocolate flavor — it’s simply that rich.

The downside to this flavor explosion, of course, is that this has a pretty decent chunk of calories in it. A serving is about 1/6 of a container, which has 330 calories. If you eat more than the recommended serving size, you’re really piling on those calories. As tempting as it is to keep eating, you really should be careful with this.

Trader Joe’s recommends eating this out of a sugar cone, but we ate ours straight out of the carton and found plenty to love. The sugar cone does sound lovely, though.

The Trader Joe’s Ultra Chocolate Super Premium Ice Cream is wonderful. It’s jam-packed with rich, chocolatey flavor, but it’s also packed with calories. You can serve this in a bowl or a cone — or even just spoon it straight from the carton into your mouth like some sort of ice-cream-loving monster. No matter how you choose to eat this, we think you’ll absolutely love it.
