Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Loaded Sausage Bites Review

Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Loaded Sausage Bites

We first started reviewing the Jimmy Dean brand because we’re fans of breakfast sandwiches. We ended up uncovering a whole world of frozen breakfast foods that we never even knew existed before our grocery-store adventures into the wildlands of the Jimmy Dean product line.

We’re diving even deeper into that magical realm today, as we’re checking out the Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Loaded Sausage Bites. These come in a small cup rather than a box, which is probably not a hugely important detail but we found it interesting nonetheless.

Cooking these is fast and easy. Simply peel open the top of the cup, place it near the edge of your microwave’s turntable, then heat everything for 40 to 50 seconds. Well, the package says 40 to 50 seconds — we ended up heating ours for double that, because there were still icy bits in ours after 50 seconds.

We were honestly a little bit nervous when we picked these up. We thought they’d be a bit like the Casserole Bites, which we weren’t huge fans of. However, the Casserole Bites are primarily egg, which Jimmy Dean doesn’t do all that well, and the Loaded Sausage Bites are primarily made from sausage, which is what Jimmy Dean does best.

Yes, these are primarily a delicious, mouthwatering turkey sausage. The flavor is great, with just a little bit of spiciness to it, which we really love. If you like Jimmy Dean’s sausage, we think you’ll really love these.

Aside from that, there are little chunks of egg and cheese inside each meatball. The egg portion doesn’t really have much impact here, but the cheese adds a little something extra that elevates the sausage flavor. It was a good choice.

One cup of sausage bites contains 240 calories (150 from fat) and 910 mg of sodium. The calorie count doesn’t seem bad at a glance, but keep in mind that the amount of food in this cup is pretty meagre — our cup only had six little balls in it. Plus, the sodium level is really high for the portion size, even for a frozen food.

The Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage, Egg & Cheese Loaded Sausage Bites take what Jimmy Dean does best and throw a neat little spin on it. The end result is a tasty breakfast, though it’s admittedly a small one. While these are more filling than you might expect, a single cup does seem a bit small for a breakfast, especially for people who tend to be pretty hungry in the morning. You might need to eat these with a side of scrambled eggs and toast and a big cup of coffee.
