Scott & Jon’s Vegetable Pad Thai Review

Scott & Jon's Vegetable Pad Thai

We realized this morning that we keep reviewing frozen food with red packaging. In fact, we’ve done this for the past three days. Well, today we’re not ending that streak quite yet, as we’re checking out the Scott & Jon’s Vegetable Pad Thai, which does indeed have red packaging. Well, this is a reddish pink, we suppose (or perhaps a pinkish red?) We assure you, we’re not doing this on purpose!

Anyway…

We’d been exploring the shrimp-filled Scott & Jon’s meals — there are quite a few of those — and were wondering how their non-shrimp meals would taste. This curiosity led us to the Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Broccoli (which we reviewed recently) and the Vegetable Pad Thai (which we’re reviewing today, obviously). So let’s dig in!

Cooking this is super-duper simple. Cut a small slit in the film, then pop the bowl into the microwave for three minutes and 15 seconds. That’s all there is to it! (If you want to read the full cooking instructions, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

This comes out of the microwave looking colorful and smelling like a dream. You probably can’t tell by looking at the image above, but this is also kind of soupy. The sauce is much runnier than we were expecting it to be.

This is a pretty simple bowl of food. You’ve got some noodles sprinkled with veggies and soaked in a sauce. The veggies are broccoli, red bell peppers, and carrots. The broccoli is crisp, the carrots are a little soggy but great-tasting, and the bell peppers are scant.

Of course, the real star of this show is that sauce. Even though it’s watery, it tastes fantastic. It smells garlic-y, but it actually tastes really sweet. There’s also a hint of rice vinegar. It’s a complex flavor, but a good one. We really love this sauce!

Then there are your classic rice noodles, which are a bit narrower than we’d like. Aside from the size, though, we really don’t have any complaints. These do exactly what they’re intended to do, and because they’re soaked in sauce, they end up tasting great.

Like all of Scott & Jon’s meals, this one is lovely for dieters. With just 290 calories, this certainly won’t send you bustling for the gym to burn all of that off — though there’s no reason you can’t still do that if you’d like! The sodium is a little high at 730 mg, but that’s pretty close to average for a frozen meal. This isn’t a ton of food, though, so you might still be a little hungry when you finish.

The Scott & Jon’s Vegetable Pad Thai is tasty and low in calories, though it’s not super filling. While this would have been amazing with the S&J shrimp, it’s still a lovely dish that doesn’t exclude vegetarians. It’s also gluten-free!
