Trader Joe’s Cubano Seasoned Wrap Review

Trader Joe's Cuban Seasoned Wrap

We mostly review frozen foods here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. Mostly.

Once in a while, we do like to treat ourselves to something from outside the freezer aisle, whether that’s a boxed mac and cheese, a burrito, or a fresh wrap. Today, we’re checking out something from the wrap category, the Trader Joe’s Cubano Seasoned Wrap.

This wrap can be found in the refrigerated section of Trader Joe’s. At our local store, the wraps are close to where the non-frozen burritos are kept, though we think this probably varies by location.

Anyway, with no prep time at all, we’re ready to dig into this Cuban-inspired wrap to see what it’s all about.

Trader Joe's Cuban Seasoned Wrap

One thing we’ve noticed about Trader Joe’s wraps is that they tend to go really heavy on the shell. That’s actually not the case with this particular wrap, and we’re quite grateful for that. The shell is certainly not the best part of this meal — it’s what’s inside that really counts.

The bulk of the filling is sliced uncured ham with shredded roasted pork packed around it. The roasted pork is also seasoned, which is lovely, and that gives this wrap enough flavor that you could eat it without using any sauce at all. It tastes great, and it’s only made better by the addition of swiss cheese and dill pickles.

For dippers, though, this comes packaged with a side of sauce. (We think a side of sauce could ahve really improved the last TJ’s wrap we tried, the Turkey Club Wrap). The sauce here is what’s billed as a “Cuban-inspired mustard sauce,” though we think it has a slightly Miracle Whip-like taste to it. While it complements the sandwich quite well, we also think you should use it in moderation. The flavor is a little intense on its own, and too much sauce can start to overpower the meat portion, which is the best part of this entire wrap.

So how are things in the nutrition department? Well, calorie-counters should definitely be prepared for a shock. According to the package, half of a wrap is a serving size, which means one full wrap contains 680 calories (320 from fat) and 1,180 mg of sodium. This is not made for dieters.

The Trader Joe’s Cubano Seasoned Wrap is the best Trader Joe’s wrap we’ve tried so far. While Trader Joe’s wraps can be hit or miss, this one is definitely a hit. We found this to be quite delicious, despite the fact that we hardly used any of the sauce. This wrap stands on its own, and the sauce is just a nice little bonus.
