We review a lot of food here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. Most of the stuff we try is alright, some of it is great, and some of it is downright awful. But every once in a while we stumble upon something that’s so excellent we have to shout its praises from the rooftops. Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter Ice Cream is one of those rare products.
Where do we even start with this one?
Well, we suppose we can talk about the basic concept behind it. Cookie butter, believe it or not, is exactly what it sounds like — a creamy spread made from European spice cookies called speculoos cookies. This ice cream starts as an attempt to bring that sweet, rich flavor to the frozen world, blending delicious vanilla ice cream with generous swirls of actual cookie butter.
And it works. By golly, does it ever work.
This ice cream tastes like something from a dream. The rich, spiced flavor of the cookie butter swirls will leave you tingling with excitement, even though some people complain that the texture of the cookie butter can be a little gravelly. But overall, this dessert is able to bring balance to the Force, young Anakin Skywalker, for the grainy texture of the cookie butter is offset by the smooth creaminess of the ice cream. It all comes together to make for a treat that will sweep you off your pretty little feet.
Okay, so let’s come down from Cloud 9 for just a moment. This carton contains six servings, and each one of those servings contains 310 calories. While that’s not horrible, this stuff is very hard to stop eating once you’ve started. You could easily find yourself 1,000 calories deep and still wanting more. Be careful, dear readers!
The Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter Ice Cream is fantastic. Seriously, if you like ice cream at all, you need to get up, rush to the nearest Trader Joe’s, and pick up a batch of this ice cream immediately. This is probably the best ice cream we’ve tried so far in our four and a half years of reviewing frozen food. This stuff is mind-blowingly good, and we can see it becoming a staple of our Trader Joe’s trips (much like the Gone Bananas! frozen treats).
