Trader Joe’s Mélange à Trois Bell Peppers Review

Trader Joe's Mélange à Trois Bell Peppers

We’ve recently been making a lot of omelets and sandwiches, and both of those have been improved by the addition of Trader Joe’s Fire Roasted Bell Peppers and Onions, which we reviewed not long ago. However, there’s another big, frozen bag of bell peppers in the TJ’s freezer aisle, and we’re interested in checking that out as well.

Yes, today we’re finally checking out the Trader Joe’s Mélange à Trois Bell Peppers. These come in a bag and can usually be found among the other bags of frozen veggies at TJ’s. While this sack o’ veggies might not be exciting as a bucket of mint-flavored ice cream, it does still seem like a hot item at Trader Joe’s. We’re curious to see if this levels up our sandwiches to the next level or not.

This is really just a simple bag of bell peppers. If you look at the instructions on the bag, there are three components: red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, and green bell peppers. There’s no fancy-pants seasoning or anything — this is a simple bag of veggies. In fact, this doesn’t even contain onions, like the last batch of frozen veggies we reviewed.

And that means there’s really not a lot to say about these. We fried ours in a skillet with some oil, and they turned out great. This batch doesn’t include the onions or fire-grilled marks of the other bell-pepper bag, but what’s here is still satisfactory. The peppers survived the freezing process quite well, and even though they lack the firmness of raw veggies, they still have a little bit of toughness to them that makes them a joy to eat.

This bag supposedly contains five servings, and each serving has 20 calories. We really doubt you’ll use 1/5 of a bag at a time unless you’re making something where bell peppers are at the very heart of the meal. That said, you’re not going to have to worry about calories here. With just 20 calories per serving, you’ll have to worry far more about what you add to these than the actual peppers themselves. These aren’t going to kill a diet, like some sandwich toppings would.

The Trader Joe’s Mélange à Trois Bell Peppers aren’t fancy or complicated, but they’re the perfect thing for anyone who simply wants to add bell peppers to something. We made a turkey melt and tossed these bad boys (or girls) into the mix, and the result was definitely a better sandwich. We do miss the onions, but we get that this combo is specifically designed for people looking for the peppers without the onions. For those folks, this bag is a frozen winner!
