Devour Turkey and Bacon with Ranch Grilled Cheese – A Second Opinion

Devour Turkey and Bacon with Ranch Grilled Cheese

Back when we reviewed the Devour Turkey and Bacon with Ranch Grilled Cheese, we said the bread doesn’t turn out very well in the microwave. We also mentioned that we’d love to try this in the toaster oven to see if that might make things a little better. That was a long, long time ago (way back in 2018), but don’t think we’d forgotten about it! Today we’re running this long-anticipated experiment. Yes, today we’re cooking up the Devour Turkey and Bacon with Ranch Grilled Cheese in the toaster oven to see how it compares with the microwaved version.

This does come with a crisping tray, but we don’t need to use it this time. No, this time we’re going off the beaten path and testing out a cooking method that we don’t have instructions for. However, if you’re looking to cook your own Devour sandwich in the microwave and you want to read the full cooking instructions, you can scroll down to check those out. We’ve still included a scan of those instructions at the bottom of this article, even though we’re not using those instructions today.

So let’s get cooking!

Devour Turkey and Bacon with Ranch Grilled Cheese

Now, first up, we should admit that we messed this up a little bit. We had the heat up a bit too high, so this ended up crispy on the outside but still kind of cold in the middle. If you’re going to attempt to do this, we recommend using the microwave just enough to get this a bit thawed, then transfer it to the toaster oven.

Another problem that arises due to the toaster oven is that the chicken dries out a bit. Again, we think this could probably be mitigated by microwaving this for maybe 45 seconds before toasting it, so that might not end up being a problem for everyone.

And really, even though we messed this up, it still ended up being a tasty sandwich. We just ate the edges of it, then chucked the middle into the microwave for about 45 seconds. The bread came out much better this time, allowing us to truly appreciate it. It’s a lovely, crunchy toast with some good flavor to it. Yes, when we microwaved the middle part, it ended up a little soggy again, but this is why we recommend doing the microwave part first rather than second. It did fix that chicken right up, though!

And, of course, we love ranch dressing, so the sauce here really tickled our fancy.

Now, this is where we give you the hard facts, Jack. Devour is not known for making diet-friendly meal, and this sandwich is certainly not their attempt at getting into that market. No, this sucker contains 530 calories. That said, the sodium level is just a teeny bit over the average for a frozen meal, at 740 mg. That could definitely be a lot worse.

We still can’t get the Devour Turkey and Bacon with Ranch Grilled Cheese to turn out perfectly, but we’re definitely making progress. Who knows? Maybe we’ll end up trying this a third time? If we do, you, dear Freezer Meal Frenzy readers, will be the first to know!
