Talenti Mediterranean Mint Gelato Review

Talenti Mediterranean Mint Gelato

We did it! We found the one frozen food that is a near-perfect match to our plates! It’s the Talenti Mediterranean Mint Gelato, which we’re checking out today!

It’s actually a cold, rainy day as we’re typing up this review, right after a hot spell. While it’s chilly in the Freezer Meal Frenzy offices, we wanted to pretend that wasn’t the case, so we figured we’d eat as if it were a real scorcher outside. And that, of course, led us to this gelato, which we’d been meaning to try for a while now. And since we tend to love Talenti’s products, we figured this would be a real winner with the Freezer Meal Frenzy crew.

So let’s dig in.

Talenti Mediterranean Mint Gelato

Before we tasted this, we were really excited to try it, but after our first bite, we weren’t so excited anymore. While there is a minty flavor to this, it’s actually more of an undertaste than anything else. The primary flavor here is weirdly kind of fruity — with an artificial-raspberry-like flavor to it. We’re not sure what that flavor is, and we’ve read the ingredients list countless times to see if we could identify it. What we can say for certain, however, is that we don’t care for it.

The chocolate chips do swoop in for a smooth rescue, as that part of this concoction is really good. Since the chips will melt slower than the gelato, they’ll finish out each bite with a burst of melty sweetness.

A third of this is supposed to be a serving, and a portion of that size has 290 calories. That means if you manage to eat the whole thing, you’ll be up to 870 calories. While that’s a pretty scary number, we really don’t think that’s going to be a temptation here. This really isn’t as bingeable as, say, the Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter Ice Cream (which we could eat all day long!)

The Talenti Mediterranean Mint Gelato might be a perfect match for our plates, but it’s not a perfect match for our tastes. While we appreciate what Talenti was going for, there’s just a weird flavor to this that we just can’t come around to. We’d definitely recommend the Trader Joe’s Mint Chip Ice Cream over this gelato any day.

This review actually makes me angry. The aftertaste referenced the grassy fresh taste of real mint. This is the best mint chocolate ice cream of all time. I say this as a mint chip lover.
