Trader Joe’s Tangerine Cream Bars Review

Trader Joe's Tangerine Cream Bars

We recently stopped into our local Trader Joe’s store after a pretty intense heat wave. While it wasn’t toasty hot out the day we visited, we did have the summer heat on our mind. Because of this, we made sure to pick up some frozen treats on this trip.

Today, we’re tasting the Trader Joe’s Tangerine Cream Bars, which feature a tangerine popsicle shell and an ice cream center. When we were checking out, the person at the register complimented our choices — either this is just a Trader Joe’s custom (we think it is), or we have really, really good taste in TJ’s food, because we get complimented every time we stop in! Anyway, this lovely employee told us these remind them of dreamsicles, which was a favorite treat of ours growing up. That certainly made us excited to take these home and try them out!

These come six in a box, and each one is individually wrapped.

When we pulled one of these out of the box, we realized is was more of a pale yellow than a bright orange. But then we looked at the box again and realized these are yellow on the box too. The box color is so bright orange that we didn’t even notice the color of the dessert on the box!

The flavor here is great. The outside has a citrusy flavor, which actually tasted a little bit like grapefruit to us — there’s definitely a little bit of a sour bite to the outer later. The inside is delicious vanilla ice cream, though, and it’s sweet enough that it counters that citrusy bite. These really come together once you bite into them!

According to the box, two bars is a serving. (Did you hear that, Mom? The box says we can have two!) If you stick with the two-bar serving, you’re looking at 250 calories and 40 mg of sodium. Because we think you’ll more likely stick with just one, those numbers end up being 125 calories and 20 mg of sodium. These are definitely justifiable desserts, even for dieters!

The Trader Joe’s Tangerine Cream Bars are a lovely citrusy treat for those hot summer days. They’re not quite as sweet as the dreamsicles we remember from our childhood, but we think these are still pretty dang tasty. The sweet/citrus combo is one that really works for us, and it makes these seem extra refreshing. We definitely want to have these on hand for the next heat wave!
