Brew Pub Hearty Artisan Crust 4-Cheese Pizza Review

Brew Pub Hearty Artisan Crust 4-Cheese Pizza

Okay, we have to make a confession.

Lotzza Motzza isn’t actually the name of a brand. The actual brand name is Brew Pub, and Lotzza Motzza is just one of their many pizza lines. But we’ve been calling these Lotzza Motzza pizzas for so long that we don’t even think of Brew Pub as a brand name. And you have to admit, Lotzza Motzza is a lot catchier than Brew Pub. We’re pretty sure that most people who get these pizzas end up making this same mistake.

It never really mattered before, but now it does because we’re dipping into the non-Lotzza side of Brew Pub’s line. Yes, today we’re checking out the Brew Pub Hearty Artisan Crust 4-Cheese Pizza. We’re really curious to see how this hand-tossed style of crust changes this pizza compared to its more pub-style brethren within the Lotzza Motzza line.

So let’s dig in.

Cooking this is no trouble at all. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, then stick the pizza in for about 20 minutes. Sure, you can set this right on the center rack of your oven if you’d like to, but we used a baking sheet without any problems. Well, our cheese maybe didn’t cook as thoroughly as it should have, but we think that’s an issue with our oven rather than with the baking sheet. We’re going to need to get that looked at. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions, check out the package scan at the bottom of this review.)

Even though this pizza is outside the Lotzza Motzza line, it doesn’t skimp on cheese. No, this contains a blend of mozzarella, asiago, romano, and parmesan (the four cheeses suggested by the title of the pizza). The portion is generous here, making this a delightfully cheesy affair, and the flavor combo is great. This isn’t out of the ordinary, of course, but this classic combo just always works.

As far as we can tell, this uses the same sauce as its Lotzza Motzza brethren. It’s a slightly spicy tomato sauce that we think works better on a pub-style pizza than on one of these. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad here. No, this sauce is still really good. We just think that a slightly sweeter sauce might have been a better approach than a slightly spicier one.

And that’s because the crust has an ever-so-slight sweetness to it. This is a DiGiorno-style crust, though this one definitely has more flavor to it than your traditional DiGiorno pizza. In fact, we’d say that overall, this pizza could be described as DiGiorno-plus — this is a higher-quality take on the popular DiGiorno-style frozen pizza.

We don’t think that anyone is expecting this to be a diet-friendly pizza or anything, but this does have a lot of calories. The package considers 1/5 of the pizza to be a serving, and even that amount contains 370 calories and 710 mg of sodium. That means the whole pizza contains 1,850 calories and 3,550 mg of sodium. A half-pizza serving, then, would contain 925 calories and 1,775 mg of sodium.

We will say that the thicker crust does make this a bit more filling than a Lotzza Motzza pizza, so a half-pizza serving might actually be a bit overzealous. Even so, this has a ton of calories — and a boatload of sodium — no matter how you split it, so be careful.

The Brew Pub Hearty Artisan Crust 4-Cheese Pizza is basically a DiGiorno-style pizza with the quality dial turned to 11. This is a fantastic-tasting pizza, all around. While we do still prefer the offerings of the Lotzza Motzza side of this family tree, the Hearty Artisan Crust formula is no slouch.
