PF Chang’s Home Menu Teriyaki Chicken (Bag Serving) Review

PF Chang's Home Menu Teriyaki Chicken

Let’s face it, as much as we love the PF Chang’s Home Menu line of frozen food, it doesn’t compare to eating at a PF Chang’s restaurant. That said, their bagged meals, which need to be cooked on a stovetop rather than microwaved, tend to be a lot closer to the real thing than their single-serve boxed counterparts.

So we have high hopes for the PF Chang’s Home Menu Teriyaki Chicken, which we’re reviewing today.

While this comes without microwave instructions, the stovetop method is easy enough. You’ll heat up a skillet for a couple minutes, then chuck your chicken into it and cover it up. Let it cook for about six minutes, then uncover and stir for about two minutes longer. All in all, it takes about ten minutes (including your skillet-heating time). Not bad. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions off the side of the bag, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

Now, we should point out that this is a simple batch of teriyaki chicken. It would probably go well over a bed of fried rice, but what’s in the bag is just the sauce and chicken.

That said, what’s here is fantastic. While our chicken ended up a bit rubbery in a few places, the consistency was mostly great. This is juicy and firm, with a nice texture. And really, the chicken is just a base for the incredible sauce.

The teriyaki sauce is definitely the star of this show. It’s loaded with that sweet teriyaki flavor that we love so much. A little bit of our sauce burned to our skillet, and we scraped that part into our dish as well (you might be able to see the darker chunks in the image a few paragraphs above). This means that there are some chunks of slightly smoky-tasting, super condensed teriyaki sauce. We think this takes the dish to a whole new level — we really enjoy how this works out. Of course, if you’re not into that, you can always skip it.

The bag recommends about one cup as a serving size, which should give you 2.5 servings. If you stick with that, you’ll be looking at 340 calories and 1,140 mg of sodium. If you power through the full bag, on the other hand, you’re up to 800 calories and 2,660 mg of sodium. If you don’t serve this over rice, it’s actually not difficult to polish off the whole bag in a sitting — especially since it’s really hard to stop eating this once you’ve started. This isn’t really built for dieters, and it’s especially not made for people looking to reduce their sodium intake.

The PF Chang’s Home Menu Teriyaki Chicken is just a simple bag of teriyaki chicken, but that’s not a bad thing. In fact, this is one of the best frozen Asian-style chicken dishes we’ve tried here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. We definitely recommend this to anyone who doesn’t mind a few extra calories and a boatload of extra sodium.
