Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice with Shrimp and Soy Garlic Flavor Review

Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice with Shrimp and Soy Garlic Flavor

Freezer Meal Frenzy readers got pretty excited when we started reviewing the Bibigo brand. And they should! It’s an exciting brand, filled with things that we can’t wait to get our hands on. So today we’re moving deeper into the line with yet another box of rice, the Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice with Shrimp and Soy Garlic Flavor.

Let’s dive right in!

If you want to pan fry this, you can do that, but the microwave instructions are so simple that it’s hard to resist nuking this fried rice. Simply tear open a corner of the bag, then cook it for 2 minutes. Flip the bag open and cook it for about 90 seconds longer, then dump the rice into a serving dish. It’s ready to go. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the box, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

The most pressing question here is: How is the shrimp? We’ve actually had some pretty tasty frozen shrimp over the years, so we were really curious to find out how Bibigo’s would end up. Well, this stuff is alright. It’s a little bit smaller than we’d like, and it’s also a little bit rubbery, but the flavor is good. The shrimp really don’t make up a substantial portion of this meal. We think we counted six pieces in our rice.

The rice itself is fantastic. You’ll smell that soy garlic sauce before you ever take your first bite, preparing you for the flavor explosion you’re about to witness. This stuff tastes strongly of garlic and soy, and that makes us happier than pigs in the mud.

You’ve also got a fairly simple mix of addons. You’ll find a few pieces of yellow carrot and bell peppers, along with some edamame. None of it has a huge presence here, but all of it is good.

Of course, we always comment on the scrambled egg portion, and we’re going to do that again. Yes, this rice contains scrambled eggs. They’re pretty decent, though, again, they don’t make up a huge portion of this dish. In the bag, you’re mostly just getting a super flavorful batch of rice, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Now, there are two bags of rice per box, so one bag is considered a serving. It’s a fair amount of food if you plan on serving something else on top of it, though we’re not sure just a bag of rice would be considered a meal. If you eat just one bag of rice, you’re looking at 360 calories and 990 mg of sodium. You’ll want to be careful about what you pair this with, as those numbers are a bit high for a side dish.

The Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice with Shrimp and Soy Garlic Flavor might go light on the shrimp, but it still goes heavy on the flavor. If you’re simply here for the shrimp, you might be a little disappointed. However, if you just want a really flavorful batch of fried rice, you could certainly do much worse.
