Trader Joe’s Mini French Baguettes Review

Trader Joe's Mini French Baguettes

Admittedly, this is one of the weirder reviews we’ve done here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. While we’re usually reviewing frozen meals or frozen pizzas or even tasty ice cream, today we’re checking out a simple side dish: the Trader Joe’s Mini French Baguettes. Yes, this is a simple bag of six baguettes, ready to be heated and enjoyed.

So let’s dig right in.

First off, these are easy to cook. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then toss the baguettes in for about six minutes. The instructions say to just set them on the middle oven rack, but we used a baking sheet. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the side of the bag, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

As you can see in the image below, these don’t actually end up as golden brown as you might expect based on the image on the box. In fact, we weren’t sure that ours were even done after the recommended six-minute cook time, so we gave them an extra couple minutes and they still ended up lighter in color than we expected. We’re willing to say that this might be an effect of using the baking sheet when we were instructed not to…

As far as flavor, these taste great. They’re maybe a little doughy-tasting in the middle, but they still end up pretty rich in flavor. We tried a couple plain for the sake of this review, but then we got a bit more creative. We tried one with melted butter, and the butter really does add a little extra oomph. We then cut one down the middle and added turkey and cheddar cheese to make a mini sub sandwich. This ended up being a delightful combo, as the cheddar works especially well with the flavor of this bread.

Each baguette contains 100 calories and 270 mg of sodium. That’s not bad as a side dish, but keep in mind that anything you add will make these numbers higher. Even just a little bit of butter is going to increase that calorie count by a noticeable amount.

The Trader Joe’s Mini French Baguettes make for a simple side dish that can be served a multitude of ways. Whether you eat them plain, add a dab of butter, or go hog wild and make your own sandwich concoctions, we think there’s plenty to love here.

These are excellent but you have to bake them for about 15 minutes at 400 degrees to get them to brown. I experimented to find the perfect cooking time. 14-16 minutes.
